The Commerce Department, in association with Krish Foundation, organised a Smart Investment Awareness Programme on 26th August 2026 for II B.Com and II BBA ‘A’ students. Ms. Suchithra, Associate Professor, Mangalore Institute of Technology and Engineering, was the resource person. The session highlighted the importance of saving and investment. Students learnt that saving provides financial security, while investment helps in wealth creation and achieving future financial goals. The basics of investment in shares and mutual funds and the need to understand risk before investing were also explained.
The role of SEBI (Securities and Exchange Board of India) in regulating the securities market and protecting investors was discussed. Students were introduced to the SARATHI App, an investor education platform that provides useful information about financial markets. They were also encouraged to complete the learning modules and obtain a certificate through the SARATHI App.
An important part of the programme was awareness about financial scams. Students were cautioned against fake investment schemes, guaranteed high returns, suspicious links and sharing confidential information such as OTPs and passwords.
Overall, the programme enhanced students’ financial literacy and awareness and encouraged them to develop responsible saving and investment habits. Mrs. Gayathri K coordinated the session.
