The Department of Computer Applications, in association with VarMatrix EduTech, organized a One-Day Workshop on the topic “Build a To-Do Application: Frontend and Backend in Action” on Wednesday, 26 August 2026, in the Computer Lab. The workshop was conducted exclusively for the students of III BCA ‘B’ Section with the objective of providing practical exposure to modern full-stack web development and enhancing their industry-oriented programming and application development skills.
The programme commenced with a warm welcome, followed by the introduction of the resource person by Ms. Thanishka. She highlighted the professional background and expertise of Ms. Sneha Rai, Software Developer, and emphasized the growing demand for full-stack developers in the software industry. She encouraged students to utilize such hands-on learning opportunities to bridge the gap between academic concepts and real-world application development.
The technical session began with an introduction to modern web development, where Ms. Sneha Rai explained how web applications have evolved from static websites to dynamic, interactive platforms that serve millions of users. She set the stage by discussing the importance of responsive user experiences, scalable applications, and the technologies that power contemporary web solutions.
She then introduced the concept of Full-Stack Development, helping students understand the complete development picture by explaining the roles of the frontend, backend, database, and server. Students learned how these components work together to build fully functional web applications and why full-stack developers are highly valued for their ability to develop both client-side and server-side solutions.
The resource person further explained the workflow of component-based architecture, illustrating how applications are divided into reusable and maintainable components. Using React.js as an example, she demonstrated how user interfaces can be developed efficiently by organizing the application into independent components that communicate with one another, thereby improving code reusability and project scalability.
An informative discussion on the benefits of Full-Stack Development followed, where students understood the advantages of using a unified technology stack, faster development cycles, easier maintenance, better collaboration between development teams, and enhanced career opportunities for aspiring software professionals.
Ms. Sneha Rai also addressed why React.js and Node.js have become popular choices in modern web development. She explained the concept of “JavaScript Everywhere,” demonstrating how the same programming language can be used for both frontend and backend development. This helped students appreciate the efficiency of using React.js for creating interactive user interfaces and Node.js for handling server-side operations.
The workshop then moved into a hands-on session on setting up the React environment. Students were guided through the installation of the required software, configuration of the development environment, creation of a React project, and execution of the application on their systems. The step-by-step demonstration ensured that every participant successfully established a working development setup.
The highlight of the workshop was the “Build My First Application” session, during which students developed a complete To-Do CRUD Application. Under the guidance of the resource person, they implemented the core CRUD functionalities: Create, Read, Update, and Delete, allowing users to manage daily tasks efficiently. Students gained practical experience in designing the user interface, managing application state, connecting the frontend with the backend, and understanding how data flows between different layers of a web application.
The session concluded with an engaging Question & Answer and Wrap-up discussion, where students interacted with the resource person by raising queries related to React, Node.js, project structure, career opportunities in full-stack development, and best practices in software development. Ms. Sneha Rai provided valuable guidance on the next steps for learning advanced web technologies and encouraged students to continue building practical projects to strengthen their portfolios.
