SDM College of Business Management, Mangalore, celebrated National Sports Day on August 29, 2026, at 10:00 AM in the Conference Hall, marking the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand.
The event opened with a tribute to Major Dhyan Chand, recalling his remarkable contributions to Indian hockey and his enduring legacy in the world of sports. The programme aimed to underline the importance of sports, physical fitness, discipline, teamwork, and sportsmanship among students.
Mr. Nithin, Ekalavya Awardee, International Netball Player, and Vice-Captain of the Indian Team, graced the occasion as Resource Person. In his motivational address, he shared insights from his sporting journey and urged students to take up sports actively while cultivating discipline and dedication.
As part of the celebration, a Sports Pledge was administered to students, reaffirming their commitment to fair play, sportsmanship, fitness, and healthy living. A wall magazine showcasing sports achievements was also put up on the occasion.
Dr. Bhanuprakash B E, Principal, SDM College of Business Management, presided over the programme. In his address, he highlighted the role of sports in the holistic development of students and encouraged them to make sports a regular part of their academic and personal lives.
Mr. Sudarshan, Physical Education Director, coordinated the event, with student coordinators Mr. Bhavish K Poojary (III BA HRD) and Ms. Anjali (III B.Com) extending their support for its successful conduct.
The programme concluded with a call to students to pursue both sporting and academic excellence with equal zeal, leaving the gathering inspired to take a keener interest in sports and physical wellbeing.
