The Department of Computer Applications, Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara College of Business Management, Mangaluru, organized an Alumni–Student Interaction Programme titled “Career Insights: Navigating the IT Industry” for the students of III BCA ‘B’ on 12 September 2026 at 10:00 AM in Lab S.
The programme was conducted with the objective of bridging the gap between academic learning and industry expectations by providing final-year students with practical career guidance from a successful alumnus. The session aimed to familiarize students with the current recruitment process followed by leading IT companies, enhance their employability skills, and motivate them to prepare confidently for campus placements and future professional careers.
The resource person for the session was Mr. A. Vinith Kumar, Quality Engineer, Accenture India, Mumbai, and a distinguished alumnus of the 2022–2025 BCA Batch. Returning to his alma mater, Mr. Vinith shared his inspiring journey from being a BCA student to securing a position in one of India’s leading multinational IT companies. His interaction created an encouraging atmosphere and helped students relate closely to the challenges and opportunities that await them after graduation.
During the session, Mr. Vinith provided a detailed explanation of the IT recruitment process followed by major software companies. He explained that the selection procedure generally consists of multiple rounds, including the aptitude test, logical and analytical reasoning, quantitative ability, coding or technical assessment, technical interview, and HR interview. He discussed the purpose of each stage and offered practical strategies for successfully clearing every round. Students were also introduced to the importance of time management and accuracy while attending online assessment tests.
Mr. Vinith further highlighted the value of developing mini projects beyond the prescribed curriculum. He explained that personal projects demonstrate creativity, technical competency, and genuine interest in software development, making a candidate’s résumé stand out during interviews. He encouraged students to build simple web applications, automation tools, database-driven projects, and problem-solving applications using modern technologies, thereby strengthening their portfolios and GitHub profiles.
The session also covered essential technical and professional skills expected by the IT industry. Students were advised to strengthen their programming fundamentals, database concepts, communication skills, teamwork, adaptability, and continuous learning attitude. The resource person shared real interview experiences and workplace scenarios, helping students understand the practical expectations of software companies and the importance of maintaining professionalism throughout their careers.
The interactive question-and-answer session witnessed enthusiastic participation from the students, who actively sought guidance on career opportunities, placement preparation, and skill development. The session served as a meaningful platform for strengthening alumni relations while empowering the final-year BCA students to prepare confidently for the competitive IT industry.
