SDM College of Business Management, Mangaluru, inaugurated NIRMAAYA – Nasha Mukta Bharat Abhiyan (Drug-Free India Campaign) on Monday, September 21, marking the beginning of a week-long awareness programme organised by the National Service Scheme (NSS), Youth Red Cross and Rovers and Rangers.
The inaugural programme featured Manjula as the Chief Guest and Sheshappa Amin as the Guest of Honour. Addressing the gathering, the speakers highlighted the harmful effects of drug addiction and stressed the importance of making responsible choices, particularly among young people.
Manjula urged students to choose their peers wisely, stay focused on their goals and not allow distractions to divert them from their vision and path. She emphasised that individuals have a responsibility towards their families and the people around them. Students were encouraged to develop a positive attitude and stay away from anti-social activities.
The speakers also spoke about the impact of substance abuse on the brain and highlighted the importance of seeking timely help to overcome addiction. Students were encouraged to confidently say “no” when friends or others pressure them into unhealthy or harmful choices.
Referring to the example of Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade, the speakers encouraged students to identify their passions and work towards them with dedication. The programme also stressed the importance of good health, constructive activities and responsible participation in building a peaceful and healthy society.
The inaugural session set the tone for the campaign, with students being encouraged to take a collective pledge to stay away from drugs and contribute towards creating a healthier, safer and drug-free society.
