The annual general body meeting of the association of private college principals of Mangalore University was held here at SDM College of Business Management recently.
Chief guest, Vice Chancellor of the Mangalore University Prof. P. L. Dharma, in his key note address highlighted the major changes that are taking place in the field of higher education and promised that the university would take all initiative to solve the problems faced by the institutions and the students.
He also stressed on the fact that the SEP has given more autonomy to the universities to implement their own syllabus and called upon the academicians to make use of this opportunity to frame students centric syllabus.
Guest of honor Dr. Francisca Tej, Founder of Wizdom Institutions Network, Mangaluru said, “Holistic development of the student is the priority in the teaching career as we focus on shaping young minds”. She pointed out the role of Wisdom Institute in providing career counselling.
In his introductory remarks, President of the association Dr. Vincent Alva listed the various issues faced by the colleges and appealed to the Vice Chancellor to resolve them.
Vice Chancellor was felicitated by the association on the occasion. Former principal of Bhandarkars’ College Kundapur and past president of the association Dr N P Narayan Shetty and former principal of Besant Women’s College and past secretary of the association Dr Satish Shetty were also honored.
In the business session it was unanimously decided to continue Dr. Vincent Alva as the President, Dr. K. Umesh Shetty and Dr. Rudrakumar M. M. as the Vice Presidents, Prof. Aruna P Kamath as the Secretary. Principal of Sridevi College Sudesh Poojari was nominated as Joint Secretary and Principal of Canara College Dr. Premalatha Pai was nominated as treasurer in the place of Principal Besant Women’s College Dr. Lakshminarayan Bhat, the outgoing treasurer.
Vice Presidents K Umesh Shetty and Dr. Rudrakumar M. M., Tresurer Dr. Laxminarayana Bhat, Secretary Prof. Aruna P Kamath were present.
