A national conference on ‘Fostering Entrepreneurship in India: Challenges, Opportunities, and the Road Ahead’ was held at Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara College of Business Management (SDMCBM), Mangaluru, 11 March 2025.
The event, brought together business leaders, academicians, and students to discuss the evolving entrepreneurial landscape in India, was inaugurated by Mr Anand G. Pai, President, Kanara Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Mangalore.
In his address, he emphasized the importance of creating a robust entrepreneurial ecosystem and highlighted the role of innovation, financial literacy, and government support in the success of startups.
He encouraged aspiring entrepreneurs to focus on sustainability and adaptability in the face of economic uncertainties.
Mrs. Nanditha Acharya, Managing Partner, Zari Couture, Mangalore, and an alumna of SDMCBM, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. She shared her entrepreneurial journey in the fashion industry, discussing challenges such as market competition and evolving consumer preferences.
She advised young entrepreneurs to embrace creativity and leverage digital marketing to establish a strong brand identity.
The keynote address was delivered by Mrs. Vathika Pai, Proprietrix, Vathika International Travels, Mangalore. Speaking on “Youth Entrepreneurship in India – Opportunities & Challenges,” she highlighted the growing startup culture, digital transformation, and funding opportunities available to young entrepreneurs.
She encouraged students to explore technology-driven businesses and utilize India’s expanding digital economy.
The first technical session, moderated by Mrs. Smitha M., Associate Professor at SDMCBM, focused on opportunities for young entrepreneurs.
The second session on ‘Funding and Financial Strategies for Entrepreneurs’ was led by Jeyaprasath R., Chief Manager, Head Credit at Bank of Baroda, Mangalore. He provided insights into various financing options, including bank loans, venture capital, and government schemes like MUDRA loans.
Stressing the importance of financial planning and credit management, he advised entrepreneurs to build a strong financial foundation for long-term success.
Dr. Venkataraju B., Associate Professor, SDM Institute for Management Development (SDMIMD), Mysore, conducted a session on ‘Building Entrepreneurial Resilience Amid Economic Uncertainty’.
He emphasized the need for adaptability, strategic planning, and crisis management in navigating economic fluctuations. He encouraged entrepreneurs to develop strong leadership skills and risk assessment strategies to sustain their businesses.
The conference concluded with a paper presentation session, where students and researchers shared their insights on various entrepreneurial topics.
