WEBINAR – “Consumer Awareness and Rights”

A national webinar on “Consumer Awareness and Rights” was organized on 9 November 2023 by the Consumer Cell of Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara College of Business Management in association with Consumer Advocacy Group, with the objective of creating awareness on empowering consumers for a sustainable tomorrow and educating them. Around 90 participants from different colleges registered for the webinar, and Google Meet was the online platform for the event.

The program began with a formal welcome from Principal Prof Aruna P Kamath, who also introduced the moderator for the webinar sessions, Dr. Sudha K, Research Professor, Institute of Management and Commerce, Srinivas University, Mangalore. The first session was taken up by Dr. Sradhanjali Dasgupta, a psychologist from Kolkata, who spoke on ‘Consumer Psychology’. She explained how consumers think during purchasing and how advertisements affect consumers emotionally. The second session was taken up by Prof. K V S SARMA, Vice Chancellor, MNLU Aurangabad, on the topic ‘Consumer Protection Act 2019’. Sir explained how the act was improved compared to the old Consumer Protection Act 1930 and how consumers can benefit from it. The last session was taken up by Dr. Raja Jebasingh, Associate Professor from St. Joseph’s College of Commerce, Bangalore, on the topic ‘Consumer Forum and its Associates’. Sir highlighted different forums available to consumers, who can file a case where, how, and the online procedures available now.

This live webinar was screened in the Conference Hall for all First Year BBA students. All sessions were successful in inspiring participants to explore the sector of consumerism. Ms. Rashmi T proposed a vote of thanks, and Ms. Veena D Kotian compered the program.
