Workshop on “Awareness on Cyber Security ,Cyber Crime and Data Protection”

A Workshop was organized on 28th October 2022 for BCA students in Conference Hall at 9 AM on the topic Awareness on Cyber Security, Cyber Crime and Data Protection”. The objective of this session was to focus attention on security, creating sensitivity to the threats and vulnerabilities of computer systems, mobile phones and recognition of the need to protect data, information and systems.

The resource person for the lecture was Mr. Santhosh Rebello, “salesforce”, University Program Manager, EGL Parks Pvt. Ltd., Bangalore.

Mr. Santhosh, in his introduction focused on the need to know about cyber awareness and explained the following topics to the students.

  • The importance of network security.
  • Preventing identity theft.
  • Passphrases and multi-factor authentication.
  • Why should you avoid public Wi-Fi?
  • Social engineering, including phishing and SMShing.
  • Shoulder surfing
  • Browsing securely.
  • Device security.
  • Malware.
  • Man-in-the-Middle (MitM) Attacks.
  • Denial-of-Service (DOS) Attack.
  • Security breaches of remote working.
  • The General Data Protection Regulation and data privacy
  • How to prevent social engineering attacks.

The talk was very interesting and interactive. Students understood what cyber threats are, the potential impact a cyber-attack and how they can protect themselves from cyber-attacks. students also learnt about phishing scams, malware, ransomware, and other computer threats as it is absolutely necessary for students to keep students safe.
