The Internal Quality Assurance Cell of SDM College of Business Management in association with the Karnataka State College Teachers’ Association (R), Dakshina Kannada District, conducted a one Day Workshop on “Guru Vandana: Preserving the Legacy of Gurus through the Indian Knowledge System” on the 25 of July 2026 at College Conference Hall.
The programme was inaugurated by Mr. Sandeep Boodihal, State President of the Karnataka State Secondary Teachers’ Association. In his inaugural address, he emphasized that the Guru-Shishya tradition is a cornerstone of the Indian Knowledge System ,reflecting the Indias holistic approach to education He explained that in IKS, the Guru is not merely a teacher but a mentor who nurtures the intellectual, ethical, and spiritual development of the disciple through experiential and value-based learning and timeless tradition continues to preserve India’s rich cultural and intellectual heritage while inspiring lifelong learning and character building.
The keynote address was delivered by renowned thinker and orator Dr. Ravindra, who spoke on “The Indian Knowledge Tradition.” He highlighted that it is the responsibility of teachers to acquaint the younger generation with the richness of India’s knowledge systems. He observed that while modern education is essential, students must also be introduced to the country’s traditional educational values to ensure that India’s culture and heritage are passed on to future generations. He emphasised that this is possible only if it Indian Knowledge system is implemented in the text books so that it is passed on to generations. Dr. Ravindra further remarked that a teacher is the guiding light in a person’s life, helping students discover the true purpose of education. He stated that real education is the process of bringing out the inner light and potential of an individual, and that a true teacher nurtures the holistic development of students through knowledge and values.
Dr. Madhav M. K., State Joint General Secretary of the Karnataka State College Teachers’ Association, in his introductory address spoke on the “Leadership Lessons from Ancient Indian Culture”, highlighting the enduring relevance of traditional Indian leadership principles in contemporary society.
Presiding over the function, Dr. Bhanuprakash B.E., Principal of the college spoke on the significance of strategic and administrative leadership drawn from ancient Indian teachings and explained how these principles can be effectively applied to modern institutional administration and management.
On the occasion, retired academicians who had rendered distinguished service to the field of higher education were felicitated in recognition of their valuable contributions to academia.
Major Dr. Sudha U., President of the Dakshina Kannada District Unit of the Karnataka State College Teachers’ Association, welcomed the gathering and Mrs. Shruthi N delivered the vote of thanks. The programme was coordinated by Mrs. Geetha Jain.
