Workshop on “Peer Led Suicide Prevention Programme for Students of Educational Institutions”

Medical College, Mangaluru, Manashanthi Counseling Research and
Training Centre, Mangaluru and Suicide Lifeline, A Unit of Susheg Charitable
Trust organized a one day workshop on “Peer Led Suicide Prevention
Programme for Students of Educational Institutions” on 16 December 2022. Dr.
Rameela Shekhar, Manashanthi, Mangalore explained that the objective of
this programme was to empower youth and to involve peer to identify the risk
and facilitate adequate intervention to the young people. This programme aimed
to prevent the onset of suicide related behaviour.

Mr. Shamlal Yermal, Vice Chairman NIPM in his inaugural address highlighted the need of programmes to have a generation of strong and positive minds.  Dr. Supriya Hegde Aroor, Head of the department of Psychiatry, Father Muller Medical College, Mangaluru, in her keynote address said that an early
intervention can prevent suicide to some extent.
Principal Prof. Aruna P kamath in her presidential remarks urged the students to
be social warriors and be proactive in identifying and supporting their fellow
mates who are going through mental illness.

Dr. Rameela Shekhar, Manashanthi, Mangalore welcomed the gathering, Mrs. Madhumathi J Raja, Assistant Professor SDM College of Business
Management, delivered the vote of thanks. Ms. Prajna compeered the
programme. The programme was coordinated by Human Resource Department
and Counselling Cell, SDM College of Business Management.
